What is Aci-Jel vaginal?
Aci-Jel is a natural acidic substance that is normally found in vinegar.
Aci-Jel (for use in the vagina) is used to increase the acidity inside the vaginal canal.
Aci-Jel may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Warnings
Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.
Before taking this medicine
You should not use Aci-Jel if you are allergic to Aci-Jel or vinegar.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to use this medicine if you have other medical conditions, especially foul-smelling vaginal discharge or other signs of a bacterial infection.
It is not known whether Aci-Jel will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor''s advice if you are pregnant.
It is not known whether acetic acid vaginal passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor''s advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.
How should I use Aci-Jel vaginal?
Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Do not take by mouth. Aci-Jel is for use only in the vagina.
Aci-Jel is most commonly used every day, in the morning and in the evening.
Wash your hands before and after using vaginal medication.
Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets about how to insert the medicine.
Use this medicine only with the applicator provided.
If the applicator will be reused, take it apart and wash it with warm water and mild soap, then dry it completely.
Vaginal solution is usually packaged in single-use disposable bottles and applicator tips.
Do not reuse a disposable douche applicator or bottle.
You can use a sanitary napkin to prevent the medicine from staining your clothing, but do not use a tampon.
Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotic or antifungal medicine to treat your vaginal condition. Keep using all recommended medications for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotic or antifungal medication.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
An overdose of Aci-Jel vaginal is not expected to be dangerous. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication.
What should I avoid while using acetic acid vaginal?
Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, mouth, or rectum. If this does happen, rinse with water.
Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing (such as panty hose) that does not allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until your condition is treated.
Aci-Jel vaginal side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Aci-Jel may cause serious side effects. Stop using Aci-Jel and call your doctor at once if you have:

severe burning, stinging, or irritation after using the medicine; or
-
any new symptoms.

What other drugs will affect Aci-Jel vaginal?
It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on vaginally applied Aci-Jel. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

- relieves heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach
- •
- prevents heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach brought on by eating or drinking certain food and beverages
Warnings
Allergy alert: Do not use if you are allergic to famotidine or other acid reducers
Do not use
- •
- if you have trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools. These may be signs of a serious condition. See your doctor.
- •
- with other acid reducers
Ask a doctor before use if you have
- •
- had heartburn over 3 months. This may be a sign of a more serious condition.
- •
- heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating, or dizziness
- •
- chest pain or shoulder pain with shortness of breath; sweating; pain spreading to arms, neck or shoulders; or lightheadedness
- •
- frequent chest pain
- •
- frequent wheezing, particularly with heartburn
- •
- unexplained weight loss
- •
- nausea or vomiting
- •
- stomach pain
- •
- kidney disease
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are
taking a prescription drug. Acid reducers may interact with certain prescription drugs.
Stop use and ask a doctor if

- your heartburn continues or worsens
- •
- you need to take this product for more than 14 days
If pregnant or breast-feeding,
ask a health professional before use.
Keep out of reach of children.

Directions

- adults and children 12 years and over:
- •
- to relieve symptoms, swallow 1 tablet with a glass of water. Do not chew.
- •
- to prevent symptoms, swallow 1 tablet with a glass of water at any time from 15 to 60 minutes before eating food or drinking beverages that cause heartburn
- •
- do not use more than 2 tablets in 24 hours
- •
- children under 12 years: ask a doctor
